The weird thing about making these lists is that some years are far better than others. The years 2001, 2002 and 2003 produced a number of 5 Star masterpieces, whereas the years 2006, 2009 and 2010 were not as impressive for me. I have plenty more films to watch, so these lists are far from 'definitive.' I'd appreciate any recommendations in the comments. All I really want is to discover great cinema.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Awesome to see The Artist on the top, it was my favorite too and The King's Speech is also such a fantastic movie, well deserved Oscar statues there. I actually have The Hunt in this year's line up as it was released here in 2013 and I think it will make my top 10 of the year.

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves The Artist and The King's Speech :)

The Hunt was released at a couple of festivals last year, and I saw it in early 2013 so I assumed it was actually 2012. But I think you're right, so I'm gonna change it.

  2. I've only done Top 10 lists for the years I've been blogging. I agree on some of the films you named in those years and disagree on some others.

In case you haven't seen them, I'd recommend Children of Men for 2006 and The Man from Earth for 2007. Both are science fiction, but they are SF, not sci-fi. I reviewed them here: http://tipsfromchip.blogspot.com/2011/08/movie-children-of-men-2006.html and here: http://tipsfromchip.blogspot.com/2011/08/movie-man-from-earth-2007.html (both spoiler free) if you are interested in finding out why I'm recommending them.

    1. I've heard so much about Children of Men. Can't wait to see it :) I've never heard of The Man from Earth though, so that should be interesting.

      Thanks Chip :)
