Game of Thrones: Season 2 (2012) - ★★★★½

Stars: Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Emilia Clarke, Michelle Fairley, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Alfie Allen, Jack Gleeson, Richard Madden, Sibel Kekilli, Donald Sumpter, Gwendoline Christie, Rose Leslie, Natalie Tena, Joe Dempsie, John Bradley, Charles Dance

To put it simply, Season 2 of GoT was near perfection! New and mysterious characters are introduced, old and awesome characters are killed off! There are twists and turns in practically every episode, making the game extremely riveting. We're introduced to magic, supernatural creatures, wars and epic battles. After watching this season, I've finally been convinced that this is the greatest show of all time.

Maisie Williams as Harry the Orphan Boy.
Basically, there's a power struggle between four men who wish to rule all of Westeros and sit on the iron throne. Not only that, but there's an ambitious and powerful young woman with dragons that seeks to take the throne, as it is her birth right. But wait, there's more! There's an army of wild men and women in a snowbound wasteland beyond The Wall, who also seek to take Westeros for themselves. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Supernatural creatures from beyond the grave are looking to destroy all of humanity!

Yes, there's a helluvalot going on in this show! But my god is it good! In this season we see Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) become the main character. He's intelligent, he's hilarious, and by far the most entertaining on the show! Dinklage has become an icon among the nerd-world as the witty dwarf with a taste for whores and wine. In all honesty, this show wouldn't be half as entertaining without him.

Most surprisingly, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) has the second largest part in the show. She's now on the run from the Gold Cloaks that are commanded by the Lannister's, who are at war with her family. With her hair cut short and dressed as a boy, her new persona is Harry the Orphan boy! She travels with a boy named Gendry, played by Joe Dempsie (also known for his role as Chris on the popular UK show, Skins). Together, they're not only funny, but two of the most interesting characters on the show. I really became invested in her story, and I'm rooting for her to take revenge on the bastards that wronged her.

"Oh you" - Catelyn on Robb's infatuation with a mysterious woman.
Another major story (and one I didn't care for as much) was that of Robb (Richard Madden) and Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley). In my opinion, Robb has all the charisma of a brick, which is why I couldn't really care about his character. However, I did like Catelyn quite a bit for her strength and sheer love for her family. They make a bigger splash in season 3, but their rise starts here. They're at war with the Lannister's, but they also deal with things like love, oaths and betrayal.

Here comes the most interesting story of them all...... DAENERYS TARGARYEN! She is the mother of Dragons, the ruler of a tribe of Khalasar, and the most ambitious of all the characters. Her story is the most riveting (in my opinion) because of how much her character develops and blossoms. Even though everything else is very interesting, I found myself always waiting for her to come on screen. Emilia Clarke gives a brilliant performance in this role. I can just see her becoming a huge star.

"I am Daenarys motherf*ckin' Stormborn!"
Other characters, old and new, rise to become really major parts of the story. Particularly Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), who is always either fighting with her brother or plotting with her evil son King Joffrey. On the other hand, you have Sansa stark, who I've become invested in due to her character developing into a strong and more intelligent person. These three make up a big part of the Season.

There are so many characters to talk about that I just can't go on. I will say this though, THE SEX SCENES WERE OVERKILL! Let me describe a scene to you... it starts with a prostitute doing missionary with some guy, then the camera shows us another man watching them having sex (whilst getting a blowjob). WHY? WHY IS THAT THERE!? These scenes have absolutely nothing to do with anything! Plus we see Theon Greyjoy's penis again... oh, and countless vagina's and boobs. If you're into that kind of stuff, then you should love this show. I'm in it for the story, which makes these scenes irrelevant and uncomfortable. Because of the sheer amount of sex scenes, I'm deducting half a star from a Season that is otherwise perfect.

Lena Headey is a breathtaking actress. She plays a perfect bitch.
So there you have it! I LOVE THIS SHOW. This season is dark, funny, thrilling and intelligent. However, I'm not sure how this show will fare in 20 years time. Will the effects and whatnot become outdated and irrelevant to the audience? Only time can tell. All I know is that I'm in love with the characters, the story, the music, the costumes... let's just say I love practically everything about Game of Thrones.
